I think it is very interesting that TiVo is incorporating a Chicago Tribune critic’s television picks into a recordable package for consumers. Sure it is still in the grassroots stages, but doesn’t this alienate TONS of different TiVo users from various ethnicities, skillsets, etc?!
I feel that this has the potential to be brilliant…..but….for a highly niche audience only. I think TiVo needs to either provide a vast array of critic’s picks (eg: an urban educated critic for programming on underground music/movies, etc….maybe Spike Lee for Black History Month programming for example…..or….a university professor for educational programming, and so on for different themed recordable packages)
OR
They should can the idea and save their money with the Chicago Tribune. I have never been to Chicago but I am sure that the Chicago Tribune may be leaving out some important audiences in the area with this tactic (like the highly digital/interactive/innovative 18-24 year olds maybe?)
So I guess what I am babbling about is…with such a good idea, why not let all kinds of people enjoy programming packages that appeal to them specifically as opposed to one guy representing one demographic providing his picks for programming only?
