I don’t know why my blog traffic has been spiking in a good way (because I have not written in awhile) but, cool!
I will be writing again soon I hope. Been very busy and a little peeved with blogging right now…

Fiesta

January 25, 2009 at 10:10 AM (Things That Suck) (, )

Loads of Mexican tunes seeping through the floor and some dancing/stomping of some sort…

That’s what I woke up to this morning at 9am.

Because when you have to party, you just have to.

Good morning all,

Why the “Whopper Sacrifice” was a Terrible Idea

January 16, 2009 at 1:04 PM (Advertising, Digital, Economy, Pop culture, Technology, Things That Suck) (, , , , , , , )

As some of you may know, Burger King and their agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky came up with the Whopper Sacrifice Facebook app.

The Details: Once the app is installed, users can axe ten of their Facebook friends for a free Whopper. Those who become “de-friended” are then notified that, in a nutshell, a burger is valued more than they are. Ouch.

Thoughts: Originally I thought this was hilarious (because we all have random Facebook friends somehow and trading them for a burger is kinda funny). But as I considered installing the app I ultimately turned my nose to it.

Here’s why I bailed on the idea and think BK duffed it with letting this one make it into the public:

Burger King’s creative as of late in my opinion has been a bit edgy and negative.

Rationale: “Whopper Virgins” is messed up on a global level for degrading other cultures, and now with “Whopper Sacrifice,” people can actually choose cholesterol over a human being. Wow.

Why this is bad:

1.  It makes Burger King look like they value no one but themselves. This is a terrible message to convey to consumers (especially with the economy where it currently sits). We should all be embracing each other, advocating unification, etc. An “every person for themselves” mentality is not (and should not be) the name of the game.

2. It potentially hurts people’s feelings (I feel advertising should never do this) and gives a brand a horrible reputation.

3. Acquiring a horrible reputation is, well, not good for business.

If you disagree, agree, whatever, feel free to discuss.

What Is Going On?

January 13, 2009 at 10:52 PM (Advertising, Coming of Age, Digital, Things That Suck) (, , , , , , )

I have been unbelievably busy at work and have not been blogging nearly as much due to this. I am not implying that I don’t have anything to say, but sometimes I just need some time away from the computer…hopefully this will change soon though for my sake (I find blogging to be a fun experiment and a challenge).

I am still in the process of creating my new blog space (or new page on my existing blog) for “the evolution of a painting” or whatever much better name emerges. Pretty much I picked up the oil pastels again and thought it would be cool to show a series of pictures that show how a painting transforms through the painting process (sometimes the painting is unrecognizable from the original concept). I thought this would be a cool idea, but who knows how well this will go over.

But this post is really about “what is going on with the media world right now?”

Site reps (for example):  I know the economy is a bit rough and your company may not be doing so well, but I find it shocking (and stupid) to hassle me (or other media pals) all day long about why you did not receive a request for proposal, etc. etc. etc.

Are you kidding me? It’s none of your business. Don’t get pushy.

I am still fairly new to the media game, but I have been shocked in 2009 so far with the lack of etiquette I have seen from some individuals seeking business. Afterall, people that delight and charm may be remembered, but the people that get under your skin are 110% ingrained into your memory.

I don’t mean to rant about this too much, but it actually served as a reality check for myself to make sure I pay attention to what I say and how I say it. You never know how your words can rub off on someone.

A little extra wisdom never hurt me anyway!
